Migrating historical data to Salesforce is a time-consuming process and a mandatory one if the company has been operational for years and has historical data that requires migration. We begin by identifying the customer base and company information, which is usually available on spreadsheets, accounting system, email client, internal databases or a legacy CRM. The information needs identification and filtration before shifting to Salesforce.
The Data Migration process consists of:
A complete tour of the CRM to ascertain the customization requirements. We understand the present CRM, client interaction channels, team performance measurements and anything else that helps to create forensics of the database. A database backup is created and uploaded on a local SQL server or a secure FTP site.
The ERD is created from the database to visualize the data table structure and to proceed with mapping. The field map is shared with the client, consisting of tabs for retrieved data, data type and record counts. The data is mapped to a corresponding Salesforce field.
The import process is complicated and time consuming. Factors like handling of inactive users, time stamp, date stamp, record ownership, sharing setting, and security systems are reverified. Scripting is done to automate the data import process, to the extent possible. Once imported, the data is cleaned and standardized.
The client receives a detailed tour of their data inside Salesforce and ask for validation. It is done to ensure accuracy and relevance. Client feedback is solicited to improve the mapping and import process, that is, data refresh frequently happens. Post-final import, complete access is given to the client.
